KEEZHADOOR STRIKIE

 

A village in Thrissur District Kerala is struggling to redefine our concept of ‘Development’ against environment and human rights
KEEZHADOOR a small village located in the southern part of Thrissur District of Kerala primarily agricultural in nature. The village is struggling against the pollution problems caused due to the functioning of an unauthorized Diary Farm namely Roseland Diary Farm at Keezhadoor, Alathur village, Annamnada Grama Panchayat, . The diary farm started without obtaining permission from the authorities concerned. Even though notices were issued from the PANCHAYATand Health Department to stop the diary farm, it was not complied with. The diary farm is being conducted in most unhygienic manner which is hazardous to human life, contaminate drinking water and causing environmental problems.
The study report reveals that no treatment plant was constructed and the use of cow dung and urine as manure to their feeding grass contaminate the water in the well in the locality and hence the functioning of the farm was ordered to be stopped by the Panchayat.
The Pollution Control Board filed expert opinion and remarked that the allegations are found genuine and correct.
But no official steps are taken to close the farm of 72 cows in 50 cents of land.
The authorities as well as various organisations( political and non political) are in unequivocal terms comment that the allegations against pollution problem is true and correct. The conduct of diary farm is a threat to life, health and environment and without prior sanction of the authorities and hence they demanded immediate closure.
Now the village has constituted action council namely "Paristhithi malineekarana virudha samithy". The strike is under the leadership of women
